ATLANTIAN ANDROID
CHARACTER / PROP/ COSTUME DESIGN

Created for Concept101's 2-25 art competition.
Theme is - Unfinished Masterpieces.
I already have a huge interest in ancient history, and when i first heard this theme topic I immediately thought of old beautiful marble Greek statues in museums with limbs and parts missing, exposing that rough, raw marble.
With some research, i discovered unfinished sculptures by Michelangelo that look like they're emerging from the rock, but never to be fully actualised. This sparked my inspiration and knew i had to run with this idea, along with the theme of Ancient Greece.
I wanted to entwine a little fantasy in with this project, and remembered about the tale of Atlantis told by Plato.
They talked about how they were an ancient civilisation with super advanced technology, however, i thought what would 'advanced technology' be or look to someone living in the 4th century? Rather than thinking of modern advanced technology, i tried to imagine how tech would be to those people of that time.

The engineer who created this android is of Poseidon's descent, highly intelligent and artistically skilled, Altantis's 'Leonado Di Vinci'.
Not only was he able to create the body, but he was able to somehow code what seems to be an AI into its internals, and, having it withstand deep waters, and the test of time.
Sadly was not able to finish his masterpiece, due to Atlantis being plunged into the sea by Poseidon as punishment, then later discovered a little further in the future.
The armoured body casing is a well-used, recycled Atlantian soldiers armour made of copper and brass. I absolutely love the effects of Verdigris, and knew i needed to include this into my design.
I wanted this project to look like sketches in an archaeologist's journal after discovering the android.
